I’ll be the first to admit it – I was skeptical about hypnotherapy at first. But after experiencing it for myself, I was blown away by its transformative power.

In this post, I’ll take you on my personal journey with hypnotherapy, exploring Fact from Fiction, what a typical session looks like, and Embracing the power of mindful healing.

“We all have a tendency to think we are broken, so we must move from a level of attachment to a place of inner freedom and peace. We are not broken – we are all human and are here to learn grow and love.” Marianne Williamson

When I was a kid I never wanted to grow up. From a very young age I noticed all of the hardships and responsibilities of adults. I always thought to myself, it seems like adults have it rough and I do not want any part of that life. When I was 8 I cried because I thought I was too old. As I began to grow up I thought there has to be an easier way to live and grow and just be happy.
When I first thought about owning my own business I was 17. It was my last year in high school and I was also in Beauty School to become a hairstylist. At this time in my life it was my highest intention to own a salon. How great would it be to help people feel beautiful? Slowly my focus shifted into helping people in other ways.

I was 20 years old when a terrible tragedy struck my life. This event changed me and completely shifted my reality as I knew it forever. My priorities changed and I began to realize the true meaning of life and love. From that moment on I was determined to make a difference in the lives of others in the biggest way possible. I wanted to make an impact. My eyes opened up like never before and from that point on I was determined to create a space for people to heal, grow and be happy. This is how The Exquisite Art of Healing was born.

Helping people accomplish their goals is my passion and teaching everyone that nothing is impossible or out of reach. Everyone has struggles at times in their life but it’s how you handle those struggles that make all the difference in the world. For me it’s about staying healthy and happy inside and out, remembering who you are and knowing that child like innocence is still inside of you. We are all meant to laugh and play and see the lighter brighter side of life.

Misconceptions vs Facts about Hypnotherapy

Many people have concerns or worries about hypnosis based on misconceptions they might have. There is so much misinformation out there about hypnosis so I would like to explain exactly what hypnosis is and how it works. First I want to start with common misconceptions and myths

Misconception 1: The person being hypnotized will be under the control of the hypnotist, and can be made to do or say anything the hypnotist wants.
Fact 1: This is not true. No matter how deeply hypnotized you become, you will remain in control throughout the session. You cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do, or anything that you are uncomfortable doing.

Misconception 2: Hypnosis is something that is done to people, rather than something that they can do for themselves.
Fact 2: This is not true. Hypnosis is a skill you can learn. It is a tool you can use to help yourself feel better.

Misconception 3: People become trapped in hypnosis and cannot “come out” of it when they want to.
Fact 3: This is not true. People can end hypnosis whenever they want.

Misconception 4: People have to be very “hypnotizable” or “suggestible” or “gullible” for hypnosis to work.
Fact 4: This is not true. Research has indicated that the vast majority of people can benefit from hypnosis. Furthermore, being hypnotizable or choosing to be responsive to suggestions means only that you have the ability to use hypnosis effectively. It is not at all related to being gullible or weak-willed.
Misconception

5: During hypnosis, people are unconscious.
Fact 5: This is not true. During hypnosis, people are not asleep or unconscious. Although they may feel very relaxed, they are active participants in the hypnosis session (Source: APA Division 30, Society of Psychological Hypnosis©)

Hypnotherapy is a very unique perspective on ways to heal the body and the mind in a natural way. Hypnosis is a naturally induced state of relaxed concentration – a state of mind and body in which the therapist communicates suggestions to our subconscious mind. This part of our mind influences what we think, how we feel and the choices we make. The subconscious mind is 88% of our minds and can control pain, help us clear our minds to focus on goals, help to break habits we might have developed, relief stress and anxieties and so much more. Hypnosis uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness. It is used to create subconscious change in a persons mind to form new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviors or feelings.

What does a typical session look like?

A typical session with a hypnotherapist might involve asking the client to sit on a couch with your eyes closed, and relax. Each therapist has their own unique approach for helping someone get into a deep state of relaxation such as breathing very deeply, relaxing every muscle in your body working from the tips of your toes to the top of your head, and or visualizing a peaceful setting in your mind. Whatever method the hypnotherapist uses its to help the person enter a relaxed state so the mind can start to heal the mind and body from a subconscious level. Hypnosis can be used for self-improvement and self-growth. Your experience might be similar to daydreaming or the focusing that occurs when you are engrossed in a book, your favorite movie, or staring at a fire. In that state you are conversant and in good spirits – totally relaxed and completely in control. You will experience an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, without fear, tension or stress. You are always aware of your environment and have power over every situation.

In summary, hypnosis puts the client in a relaxed state of mind where the hypnotherapist and client work together by re-educating the subconscious mind and retraining the brain to focus on what you want in your life as well as your self-improvement goals.
